The most exciting thing about London’s Molinaro, is that his talent is still yet to be discovered by most. The selector/producer has spent over a decade plying his craft behind the decks, inching his way up from pirate radio and warm-up duties to increasingly more established set times. This slow simmer has allowed him to build up an enviable taste that now dips between genres and styles with the type of smoothness that needs to be experienced rather than described.
It’s a feeling that was quickly recognised by NTS Radio, who rewarded him with a regular monthly show in 2017. The first of these hour-long sessions went straight into the station’s NTS Picks for the week and has proven a real favourite with listeners and the NTS community alike.
As a producer, his ascent has been similarly slow cooked. Back in 2012, a chance meeting with Apron Records founder, Steven Julien (aka Funkineven) sowed the seed for Molinaro’s debut release. In late 2017, Julien released APRON 35, five slabs of soul-drenched techno anchored by groove and grit from this seemingly new name with plenty of experience. From the warm, enveloping pads of opening track “GIO” through boogie-influenced rollers like “JTL” and out through moodier cuts like “TY”, it proved to be some introduction; gaining the attention of multiple respected producers/DJs, promoters and of course, Sounds Familiar.
